I liked Infinity War, but I'm getting kinda bored of the MCU. I think the main reason I'm getting kinda bored with it is because I'm bored with the characters at this point. I know IW sets up the possibility of new heroes taking the helm, but I'm doubtful that Disney's gonna bring in any of the really cool but more obscure characters, like Namor the Submariner, Dane Whitman the Black Knight, Kang, The Skrulls, and others.

Also, Marvel trying to get people hyped for Carol Danvers/Ms. Marvel/Captain Marvel yet again is kinda silly. She's been uninteresting since her debut in the late 60's, yet they keep trying to bring her back as some new version which never catches on. I never thought of her as some super awesome and unique character in any way, especially not as some kind of stand-alone savior of the universe. She got her powers from her DNA mixing with the original Captain Marvel (the alien Mar-vell), and only took up the Captain Marvel name as recent as 2012, so she's far from being an established character that many people would be familiar with, at least as the new Captain Marvel.

The first thing people I went with asked me at the end of IW was, "What was that icon on the pager?". I told them it was for Captain Marvel, and none of them had any idea who the character was.

I forgot to say, but I saw Deadpool 2 on Saturday of launch weekend.

It was... Good. Way more engaging for me than Infinity War. But it played its cards way too close to the original. I kinda liked that, but then again I kinda didn't. It immediately came across as formulaic, which I wasn't totally put off by, but then it started delivering many of the same jokes from the first film. I liked the new characters, but I was disappointed that there was even less cool Negasonic Teenage Warhead action than in the first movie. I'm the end, I wish the first movie had been given the budget of the sequel, because I liked the original story better, with my only gripe being that it could have used a few more action scenes.

But yeah, good movie. If like to see it again someday, though I don't excitedly anticipate that next opportunity.

Yeah, the original Captain Marvel/Shazam has an interesting story regarding how he started and eventually ended up in DC's hands, and how Marvel took the Captain Marvel name once the copyright expired.

It was kind of a dick move on Stan Lee's part.

I had 2 questions for #Pram... Shit, I wish I could tag you like this. :<

Anyway:

(1.) Did you ever get around to seeing Deadpool 2? I thought you enjoyed the first one, but I don't recall seeing you comment about it anywhere. If you did see it, how did you like it compared to the first one?

(2.) I saw you posted on FB that you... well, you didn't like The Fallen Kingdom... which I later learned was the subtitle to Jurassic Park 5, lol. Anyway, as the Die'est-Hardest Jurassic Park fan I've ever known, I took it as undisputable fact that the movie was utter shit. Then, I heard on the radio that this dude didn't like Jurassic World, yet he went with his wife to see Fallen Kingdom, and it was so bad that he would have left the theater if not for keeping his wife company. At this point, it was beyond a doubt the worst shit ever... But why? I thought Spielberg was back on board with this one, which made it's better-ness all but assured. Still, it was bad enough to cause pram to feel pissed for 7+ hours after exiting the theater.

(2. Cont'd) ...Now, enter my gf and her mom. Now, I know they (especially Mom) has movie tastes set with an extremely low bar of standards, and as long as there some kind of action and flashy CG shit (err, perhaps at least as flashy as lizard Reptile in Mortal Kombat 1), she'll be awed. I tried to explain how I've heard nothing but awful things about the film, including from an ultra-fan who virtually attended Michael Crichton's funeral, but she insisted that she heard it was a great movie. Turning to Rotten Tomatoes, I see it's reception is roughly split down the middle, skewing towards Rotten. I don't want to trigger your PTSD, but in short, can you summarize a few points why you felt the movie was such a disappointing disaster? ^_^

We do have member tagging, just not through hashtags. I think the next forum software has it, but considering the forum is dead and buried I'm not sure I'll ever bother getting around to doing anything with it again.

1) Yeah, saw Deadpool 2, thought it was great. Probably better than Deadpool 1, but I enjoyed the first more due it being so much more novel at the time of release. It's essentially more of the same, but bigger and better constructed all around. Don't really have much to say on it.

2) I could write novels about its flaws, but I've done that so much lately I'll just keep it short. It's just a really, really stupid movie, and less in a "dumb fun" way and more in a "my God just end".

Characters range from dull to mind-numbingly stupid (no, seriously, it has one of the stupidest characters in blockbuster history - during a dinosaur breakout one of the villains decides to open the cage to the UBER-RAPTOR villain so he can pull out its tooth and make a necklace, before dying horribly).

Character motivations are thin to non-existent, lots of remarkably ham-fisted themes, there are several nonsense scenes - a combination of all of that comes from a pointless "shocking twist" that's overly foreshadowed throughout the movie (the child in the movie is revealed to be a clone, which has no impact on the story beyond the ending where she chooses to release all of the dinosaurs into the wild on California because "I had to do it, they're alive, like me". Keep in mind there's exactly zero scenes in the movie where we ever get her reaction to finding out she's a clone and her having to cope with it - in fact no character gets a chance to react to that, so the setup to that line is non-existent an unearned. It just comes out of no where and the deadly serious delivery of the line is straight up laughable. Plus, the justification was pointless to begin with since the whole movie sets up that she loves dinosaurs and doesn't want them to die, so they could have just used that).

Then there's some intelligence-insulting tiers of pseudo-scientific nonsense (there's a scene where "paleoveterinarian" who has never met a dinosaur does a T. rex-to-raptor blood transfusion that's justified by the T. rex also being a carnivore and not having "too many fingers" which is so many levels of "THAT'S NOT HOW ANY OF THIS WORKS") sprinkled throughout, which is particularly annoying given the nature of the first film and novel pouring so much effort into its science.

Lot's of weird and out of place humor - when everything is going to shit and the island is exploding, Chris Pratt's character has to literally - I shit you not, LITERALLY - QWOP away from lava in one of the most stunningly what the fuck scenes I've ever seen.

Cringey nostalgia baiting is all over the movie, like the T. rex popping up about every 15 minutes to roar and eat something and an entirely superfluous couple of Ian Malcolm scenes nearly the entirety of which are in the trailers.

etc..

That's basically a microcosm of its various issues. Overall it's just so bad it's boring, rather than so bad it's entertaining. Especially since, despite all of this, the movie plays it extremely straight most of the time. The writer genuinely thinks it's a genius screenplay. I seriously considered walking out, which I have only done once ever.

It's reasonably well-directed, but the screenplay is easily the worst I've ever encountered for a major blockbuster. It's just bad storytelling and character writing through and through. I'd say just watch The Lost World instead. This is damn near a remake of it (I mean, it's exactly the same plot, and not in the way the TFA uses the framework of ANH's plot to tell a new story within a familiar structure, I mean it's literally the same story, just again), but dumber in every way.

No. I meant it far more literally. It is shortly before that scene though.

More like this: https://www.youtube....h?v=gfHCUM_OBCc

But worse
