Seriously, watch this.

It's a sandbox game where you basically build like LEGOs. Monsters will spawn in the darkness as you dig deep for rare minerals in a randomly generated world (that literally gets this big. Watch the video). It's retardedly simple, but you play it once and kind of start to get addicted to the simple sandbox freedoms to build your own world.

With so many sales, it's surprising you wouldn't have heard about it at all. I mean, it's been the subject of meme-dom for over a year.

In case anyone cares...

Minecraft 360's Title Update 7 is coming soon, which will mostly bring the game up to final 1.0.1. No date yet, but I imagine it'll come in a week or two. The update will include everything from 1.0.1, which the exception of The End, which will be coming in Title Update 8 (which I presume will be 1.2.x, assuming they keep to their original schedule). So breeding, brewing, EXP, enchantment, the mushroom biome/mooshrooms, Nether Fortresses, and any related items/bricks/mobs (including villagers and snow golems). Also, the tutorial world is again getting re-done with new quests/areas and player skins are getting unique animations, starting with Halloween and Christmas packs, with more skins getting animations down the line.

Edit: Just kidding, turns out the update is being released tomorrow the 19th. Awesome!

That's really cool for you Xbox owners ;P...

Ah Minecraft, the only game I stay away from for months, possibly years at a time without any trouble, but then one day get an overwhelming urge to build something and suddenly... weeks are gone.

So apparently Minecraft Xbox 360 supports texture packs and mash-up packs now? I didn't know that... Apparently the first ones should be announced soon. Also, I didn't know the PlayStation version was getting a Vita port. So, with 4J doing the 360, One, PS3, PS4, and Vita versions, I wonder just how in sync they will be? That's a lot of work to keep five different versions up-to-date and relatively synced, but Minecraft 360 alone has sold over 8 million copies (and the skin packs have been super successful), so I'm sure 4J has the money and resources now. :P

bump :P

Looks like the Vita, Xbox One, and PS4 versions will be coming in August. The Vita version will be equivalent to the PS3 version and will be cross-buy with cross-platform saves. If you've purchased the 360 version (disc or digital) you can buy the Xbox One version for $5 and transfer your saves and DLC (though not all DLC, at least for now, due to licensing issues). Same case for the PS3 and PS4 versions, though upgrading from the disc-version isn't a for sure thing. Also, saves cannot go from current-gen to last-gen, it's one-way only. This is due to the 36x increase in world size. That also confirms that last-gen saves will in-fact be upgraded in size rather than being restricted to 1,000 x 1,000. I just wonder how that will work with saves made in older versions with different terrain generation algorithms... Without including each version, I would think your transferred map would sit as some awkwardly different island smack-dab in the middle of a much larger world...

Does Minecraft still cost a subscription fee, or is there a free-to-play version, yet? I remember like a year-or-two back looking into the game on my laptop after realizing how popular it was getting, but was instantly turned off when i realized it required a paid subscription. Do the console or phone editions also require paid subscriptions?

Wait what? Minecraft has never required a subscription.

Though recently, in the past month or so, they launched Minecraft Realms, which is a separate subscription-based online service.

Still, the game itself has always been a one-time purchase since the pre-release beta...

... what? It's not an MMO, like, at all... Are you under the impression you're in a Warcraft thread or something?
