I watched episode 8 last night. I keep finding Twilight Sparkle to be a rather interesting character. On one hand, she's the main protagonist and really doesn't have much for flaws. She's the strongest pony in Ponyville in that she's the best with magic and can do all sorts of useful shit with it. But, she's also the smartest pony in Ponyville, possessing quite the library. Other ponies go to her for advice, she gives out said advice, and then problems are solved. All the other characters are more relatable in that they have pretty obvious flaws. Rainbowdash is a showoffy jerk, Fluttershy is shy to the point where she probably has a social anxiety disorder, etc. But Twilight Sparkle is just too perfect.
Except, I think I've located her flaw. It would seem like she has really no concept of social norms or mores. Episode 8, they all had a slumberparty at Twilight's, her first one. What does she do? She pulls out a book and goes "LET'S DO EVERYTHING IN THE BOOK" when shit hits the fan, she keeps flippin through the book going "THIS ISN'T IN THE BOOK. WHAT DO?" It was pretty funny, and goes to show that she doesn't know what to do outside of the book. Basic understanding of social etiquette seems to just melt away. In a previous episode where some bitch of a pony named Trixie was showing off magic, Twilight didn't want to challenge her because she didn't want to come off as a show off herself. But, obviously in the context that's not what she would have been doing.
She's been so sheltered that she lacks a basic understanding of how actual social interactions occur.
She's basically the Morgil of the show. Only she's smart, pretty, and has friends :V
