I used to have a thread about the ol' Wii system updates, so why not a new thread about any and all new Nintendo firmware updates for current and last gen Nintendo systems along with reporting the status of Nintendo servers?

Wii U has an update to 2.1.3 U now available:

It's another system stability update.  The update that adds more new features and additional system stability fixes will come in April.

Is it just me, or are things loading just a bit faster?

That was weird. I was trying to remember how to force an update because I couldn't find this one anywhere. So I went into the System Settings, and saw that I was already at this version. When did the put in auto-update-in-the-background in?

Assuming my wife didn't do it when she was playing; updating things isn't really her deal. :)

Hm, that's interesting. Mine didn't go automatically. I did it manually. Unless maybe it would've automatically updated after a while if i hadn't done anything.

It auto-downloads in the background and automatically installs the updates the next time you restart the console.

That's actually useful! WTF? :)

Sad to say, I noticed no speed improvements, but I'm not too surprised since it wasn't on their list of what to expect. That's actually why I went to see if I could download the update, because Miiverse was taking a long time to fire up, and I had to blab about F-Zero now now now!

3DS has a firmware update to 5.0.0-11U now available.

NoA has updated it's site with what this 3DS update offers:

  • Users will no longer need to close the Nintendo eShop application to ensure the "Download Later" feature works while the Nintendo 3DS is in Sleep Mode.
  • Other improvements to usability have been made, including the ability to download software update data in the background.

General:

  • Further improvements to overall system stability and other minor adjustments have been made to enhance the user experience.*

*NOTE:

  • System menu versions 5.0.0-0U through 5.0.0-10U do not include these improvements.

Aw man, I wish we got the Japanese version. I've been looking forward to being able to receive later unawares communication.

I always love broad changelog entries such as, "Further improvements to overall system stability and other minor adjustments have been made to enhance the user experience." It make me curious about what bugs they fixed that they're lumping into these descriptions. :)

It's fuckin gay how you need to be in sleep mode to download shit in the background. At first I misread that saying u no longer have to put 3ds in sleep mode to download later and that it'll download in the background, but I tried downloading a couple of demos and it didn't do it. Then I reread the post and all it does is allow u to stay in the eShop while it downloads in sleep mode? Gay. I expected something more from the next numbered update version.

With last night's update, there's now a tool that let's you move saves from physical retail games to their downloadable versions.  So if you got Mario Kart 7 at retail and bought the digital version of Mario Kart 7, you can move your physical save of MK7 to your digital copy of MK7.

HOWEVER, once you digitize your physical save, it's stuck as a digital save forever.  You can't move your digital save back to your retail copy.  FAIL.

EDIT - http://www.gonintend...story&id=198972

3DS eShop now has a "Repair Software" option in that if your game/app is cutting up on 3DS after you just downloaded it, you can go to the respective eShop page for the game/app, go to "More Details", and tap on that "Repair Software" button on the bottom of the page.

So now you don't have to delete and redownload the game/app unless the "Repair Software" option fails to fix your problem game/app.
