Yep it required one. I think the reason DK64 hasn't been released was because it was a Rare game but I could be wrong. Also there is no excuse for Star Fox not to be release as F Zero used the SuperFX iirc

No, F-Zero was a launch game built around Mode 7 - StarFox was the first SFX game and came three years later.

As for DK64, people like to claim it's the Rare thing, but even Rare themselves said that wasn't the case and that Nintendo owns full distribution rights. It must be the same reason Earthbound took so long: no one at Nintendo really cared enough.

It being a rare game is a bullshit theory, since that didn't stop them from releasing the DK Country trilogy. No, if i were to guess, i'd say it was probably a combination of the expansion pak issues and (as prime put it) no one cares enough to put any extra work into it to get it on VC. And unlike with Earthbound, i rarely hear people demanding a re-release of DK64, aside from occasionally showing up on some people's most wanted lists.

Ah ok. I confused Mode 7 with SuperFX. And yeah it's ridiculous that some of Nintendo's own games have yet to come out on VC.

I really wonder how much work goes into getting a game on the VC. It's just an emulator with a rom, isn't it? There are tons of those online and they get ripped as soon as the games release--if not sooner. I don't get why they couldn't have their entire first party NES/SNES/N64 libraries on Wii before it died out, nor why we don't have every one of the Wii VC games on Wii U by now, regardless of "off TV play®," which can't be that hard to say "Output the game on THIS screen instead/in addition to the TV." It's a retarded excuse for not having everything available. They could hire any schmuck Nintendo fan to do the VC work for chump change and he'd gladly complete the project within a year.

I believe the only reason why they don't have all their shit out faster is because they want to space out releases so it looks like they have new shit constantly releasing. Still, that doesn't explain why we don't have shit like DK64 yet.

Yeah, DK64 was a really weird game. I've tried to beat it several times but I just get over it at the end - it's really non-linear and complicated for a platformer, which I'm guessing isn't most people's cup of tea.

I never knew that Donkey Kong was supposed to be a Popeye game - how the world would be different if that was the case o.O

Personally, i enjoyed it for the most part, but i felt towards the end the flow kinda grinded to halt as you suddenly had to collect a whole bunch of random keys and coins and shit just to access the final boss battle. However, the final battle was awesome (and hilarious) so it was kinda worth it, but i don't know if i'd wanna go through all that collecting again on a VC port.

Yeah that's how I felt, but I would get distracted at the grind and just lose interest. It's a good game, but there becomes a point where it's just a lot to keep track of and to find. I probably should go back and beat it once, though - the farthest I've gotten is where you have to beat the original DK arcade.

I actually really, really loved DK64. This is another one of those few games I used to sit in school thinking about for a very long time (With one other off the top of my head being Paper Mario). I loved the variously colored bananas for specific characters to reach, certain golden bananas for specific puzzle completions with characters, and, honestly, just the fact that you could choose between those 5 characters. I thought the character select screen was hysterical, with each monkey wanting to be selected, then getting upset when you hovered over another one instead. The music was an instant classic. The overall gameplay was terrific. To this day, it is one of my favorite games of all time.

I don't understand why anybody wouldn't want to replay the game over VC. This style of platformer very clearly mimics Super Mario 64, which we all re-purchased for more than a VC price on our DS's, and the Banjo & Kazooie games.

I was lost while playing DK64 but that's cuz I played on my cousin's game. I never had that game for myself and I didn't know exactly what I was supposed to do, but one summer when I spent the night there for a week or so I finally understood what I was supposed t do and I unlocked the last Kong or two for the party, including some weapons and shit. Eventually I got kinda lost again and stopped playing it when I left again and had to go home and didn't really play it again. But I'd definitely download it if it came to the VC. It's not a headache like Majora's Mask. Gawd, now I wanna play it... "OOGHHHHH, BAH-NAH-NAAUGHHHH!!!" ;^;

Also, the Popeye thing makes a ton of sense to me. I had heard of that a long time ago, too. The scaffolding and shit is totally Popeye to me. Maybe it was just one episode that did this, but I had that episode on VHS where Popeye was chasing Olive Oil as she sleep-walked on scaffolding, and I think another time when Sweat Pea was crawling on dangerous scaffolding as well.
