Basically if you got one of these games (http://www.nintendo..../games-wifi.jsp), you will no longer be able to play or access online NWFC services after May 20th!!  If you have unfinished NWFC business, better get to it before it's too late!

3DS and Wii U content is unaffected (unless you play Wii and DS titles via backwards compatibility), video-on-demand services (YouTube Wii Channel, etc.) is unaffected, the Wii Shop/Shopping Channel is unaffected, and the DSi Shop is unaffected.

Oh for those that have Wii Speak and its channel, that channel gets nuked on May 20th since it uses NWFC.

For those wondering what NWFC offered in various Wii and DS games:

  • Online play and matchmaking
  • Leaderboards and tournament data
  • Sharing of user generated content (ghost data, user created levels)
  • User exchange of in-game items or characters (Global Trade Station)
  • Free add-on content or downloads (new levels, in-game items, Mystery Gifts)

Oh no!  :( No more (terribly laggy) Smash Bros.?? I I guess I'll just have to keep playing Project M Netplay on my PC... For shame.  :3

Seriously, though, I was waiting for this to happen. It's always inevitable on consoles. As long as the Netflix app is still operational, I doubt any of my friends or family will even notice. I'm guessing a good number of people might still play Mario Kart, and I do feel for them...

Hmm, i was skimming through the list of games, and while i saw Metroid Prime Hunters listed, Prime 3 wasn't. Does that token swapping thing not count or something, or did they just forget to put it on the list?

I'm pretty sure that was canned a few years ago.

The tokens used WiiConnect24.

Also, the Wii Mini really isn't looking silly now. Unless you really want Netflix in 480i.

Fucking bullshit. I just now found out about this upon receiving the official Wiimail from Nintendo, with my Wii glowing blue... fucking shit man. I'm gonna miss playing those games online. Fucking Nintendo.

X, Ngamer, we better hit up Goldeneye for old time's sake before it's too late. The game is awful by design standards, but we had some hella great times with that shit.

For real, I can't believe Nintendo's axing NWFC so damn soon... :(

Just be wary since people will be trying to have their last kicks on NWFC that trolls/hackers will be loving to crash the parties to try and spoil these last hurrahs.

I just wish Nintendo didn't restrict the options for messaging on Wii U and completely remove messaging on 3DS.  If anyone messages me on Wii U, it's gonna be a dice roll hoping I'll notice them in time.

Also since I'll have to play Wii stuff in Wii U's Wii mode, I can't use Wii U Chat (there's no party chat either) and 3DS has no separate chat service.  I know Pokemon X/Y has voice chat, but I'm not sure how limited that is. Hmm...
