Anyone who have been following the numerous Sony Pictures leaks over the past few days has been sure to stumble on something interesting. Everything from a Disney/Marvel Spiderman deal to a 21 Jump Street/Men in Black crossover. But perhaps the most interesting, at least for many of us, is the most recent leak: Sony Pictures and Nintendo have closed a deal for an animated Mario film. The deal was closed by Avi Arad, perhaps best known for his involvement with numerous Marvel projects over the years, particularly Sony's Spiderman films. While no one is anywhere close attached to the film, in fact beyond closing the deal nothing has been done at all, Genndy Tartakovsky of the Samurai Jack and original Clone Wars series fame, has at least had his name thrown around.

You forgot to mark this as a rumor:  http://www.gonintend...story&id=243536

I know Nintendo wants to utilize their IP outside video games more, but a movie right off the bat?  I would have figured they would start smaller, like an anime/animated series first.

Wait, of all people, Sony is handling a Nintendo property?! Even if it's just a movie and not a game, still, i'll believe it when i see it.

Avi Arad effectively confirmed it, so it's legit.

And Morgil, this kind of stuff happens all the time, it's not very weird at all. Sony's various branches operate independently and rarely care about each other's competition.

It's like how Samsung was manufacturing the chips for Apple's iPhones, while Apple was suing them for infringement. Lol.

Anyway, I can't imagine how interesting a Mario Movie could be. If the story is anything like the normal Mario games, then no thanks. I'd prefer that Pixar handle the movie anyway, a majority of their movies are awesome and I think they could handle it well. Much better than Wreck-it Ralph.

Yeah, but also, just how many movies get announced only to wind up stuck in development hell long beyond the point where people stop caring. This one guy i follow on youtube has this philosophy "Show me a trailer, or at least a poster, and then i'll get excited", and i kinda feel the same way about this Mario movie right now.

Pixar would never do a licensed movie. The closest they'll ever get it Mr. Potato Head and Barbie being in Toy Story. Disney Animation Studios could plausibly do it at least, so I'd totally be up for them doing it. What's wrong with Wreck-It-Ralph anyway? I thought it was great. Which reminds me, Mario was supposed to be a major character in the sequel, so I wonder if that fell through or something. I doubt Sony and Disney would be ok with sharing the character in major animated films...

Oh absolutely. The vast, vast majority of films get scrapped before they are even announced to the public, and technically the Mario deal hasn't even made it that far - it was just leaked. There's a long way to go before it actually happens and about a million obstacles, so we'll see. Either way, it's an interesting bit of news though.

I wouldn't care for another Mario movie unless if it was live action like the first one was, except this time without fucking up as much of the canon, with shit like human Bowser.
