Bump for news.  Konami is on the copyright warpath by taking down fanart off Twitter.

Yeah, Nintendo should have copyright claimed all of those years ago!

Thing is though Nintendo has not touched any Smash vids unless the videos contained music from other games that have already been claimed by Nintendo.

Playing Sm4sh U on Mario Circuit (8) with Mario Circuit (8)'s theme blaring?  Nintendo will claim that since they already claim most Mario Kart 8 videos.  That's one of the only times Nintendo will claim Smash videos.

One year later and we may have some pleasant news for a change.  Remember last year I mention Nintendo was looking to license out the Momotaro Railways franchise from Konami's hands (they got it from buying Hudson Soft out)?  Nintendo was successful in rescuing the franchise and returning it to Akira Sakuma, who has an agreement to let Nintendo publish the series until further notice.  Akira has full control of the franchise again.  The first game of this revived franchise will be Momotaro Railways Stand Up Japan! 2017.

Apparently back when Konami was shitting the bed and Japan was going through some terrible natural and man-made disasters, Konami thought it would be too soon to release a new Momotaro Railways, but when Akira pleaded to Konami (this is around the time Konami was feuding with Hideo Kojima), Konami canceled the series and forced Akira and his team to make a mobile game.  This pissed off Akira and led him and several other members of his team to bail from Konami.

Momotaro Railways is kinda like Monopoly meets Japanese landmarks plus typical Japan comedy/LSD craziness.  It's supposed to be a series where people could come together and play and perhaps heal if they're going through challenging times (like suffering through natural disasters).  It's for this reason why the series has never left Japan.

You can view gameplay from an older game in the franchise here (tool-assisted):

The footage was recorded during a live stream and the Japanese text that flies in from right to left is the Japanese chatroom for the stream active at the stream's time.

Here's the Japanese Nintendo Direct where the new Momotaro game was announced:

So long story short:  Nintendo rescued a franchise meant to help Japan heal during trouble and fuck Konami.
