Iwata won't be at e3 physically due to other business obligations, but he should still pop up during Nintendo's Digital Event / Nintendo e3 Direct since that is usually pre-recorded.

Miyamoto will be at e3 giving a little credit to the rumor/leak that Star Fox and/or the two other tech demos will be at e3 this year.  Though if that rumor/leak ends up a bust, he could give new info on Mario Maker or maybe announce a new 2D Mario game (provided if Mario Maker didn't already take the 2D slot this time since it's too soon for another 3D Mario announcement at least this year).

Could you really call the StarFox thing a leak? :P I mean, it was "unveiled" at E3 last year and is still officially slated for release this year, so it would really be more newsworthy if it wasn't there. :P

It is interesting that Iwata will be taking off a second E3 in a row. I know last year was for different (health) reasons, but I'm wondering if this is going to be a trend going forward.

We'll certainly still see him broadcasting... *DAIREKTRY* to us, tho, so it's all the same to me.

Yeah I fail to see this as an issue when he's probably already recorded his press conference or digital event.

Nintendo clarifies why Iwata is not physically at e3:  Nintendo isn't showing off any new hardware (sorry regular "NEW" 3DS fans wanting it and faceplates :( ).  This also counts the "NX" 9th generation platform since they already said NX is skipping this e3 due to the platform not being ready for a proper unveiling yet.

Iwata also has an Investor's Meeting to prepare for the week after e3.  That's the business obligations I already posted about.
