I know that all Pokémon names have some etymology to them, and Xerneas has a Norse origin, but according to the Pokemondb (http://pokemondb.net/etymology) the origin of Yveltal has nothing to do with Evil nor some hawk.

I still contend that these are the stupidest names. Even their designs are forced into resembling letter shapes, though that's a different bitch point altogether.

Yveltal's name doesn't original from the hawk, no, but the monster itself is based off of it. When I mentioned that I was referencing the fact that I felt the name does a good job invoking Nordic imagery, as the name itself sounds generally Norwegian (which is partly why I mentioned the vaguely similar "Yggdrasil", which "Yveltal" looks pretty solid next to). Re: PokemonDB, that's just guesswork, nothing official, and honestly wyvern seems like a bit of a stretch to me. Yvel/"evil" seems pretty likely given the Dark is literally "Evil" type in Japan, the monster is a Dark type, and it's literally a 1:1 match.

And I mean, that's fine I guess. But I'm still going to disagree. X and Y is a pastiche of European culture, the mascots and their names are pastiches of mythical European creatures/beings, and I think the names do a great job of evoking that while sounding cool.

Well, if you disagree, then which are the worst names? Strictly names, not designs. Gen 3? 2?

Damn, I dunno. I'd have to look through a list first given there's 700+ of the bastards, but if I had to guess, probably a gen 4 or 5.

PROPER ANSWER, COMING LATER
along with new rounds of ALL THE GAMES, lul

It feels like there's "700 of those bastards" since every fucking game has a thousand god pokes apiece, which diminishes their value as legends, but there are only about 20-30 of them, and I'm strictly talking about the mascots. I feel like you all are constantly misunderstanding the original argument here.

Up for discussion:

Lugia
Ho-oh
Kyogre
Groudon
Palkia
Dialga
Zekrom
...Whatever the other black/white shit was
Xerxes
Yvonnahumpalot

>>Edit:
oh, and also the two new names, two.

Oh, yeah, just mascots. I forgot.

I dunno, probably gen 3 or gen 4. Kyogre is a pretty fuckin out there name, though I understand it's strictly Japanese entomology. Palkia and Dialga sound kind of generic. Ho-oh isn't the best, but eh.

I don't really dislike any mascot names though, to be honest.

The official Japanese site of Sun & Moon will have new information coming May 10 (they're trying to get ahead of CoroCoro leaks it seems).

We got starters! As i figured, the US site updated at the exact same time as the Japanese site.

Also, there's a trailer that shows off those three starters, as well as the version mascots, though unfortunately it doesn't say their names. Also, the setting is the Alola region (which immediately made me think Hawaii), and the local professor is named Hala and has an assistant named Kukui. Finally, the release dates have been officially stated now to be November 18th for everywhere except Europe, who'll be getting it a week later on November 23rd.

EDIT: WTF, Ninja'd in a different thread?! http://forums.chozos...s-and-gameplay/

An Amazon leak says the Aloha region will consist of multiple islands.
