"We're always challenging ourselves to create something new, so hopefully you'll see a new kind of Mario in about a year or two. Maybe next E3 we'll be able to share something. It's kind of difficult with Mario because some of the more important conventions of Mario are based on the approachability and accessibility of those games."

Miyamoto says that having new people at Nintendo has helped the developers look "at the conventions with fresh eyes."

Since Super Mario Maker ended up a 2D game, I wonder if Super Mario NX will be another 3D mainline entry?

I love that people think that this means that the NX will be delayed.

Without a doubt they would want to show the technical capabilities of their new system with their most famous mascot.

I wonder if they'll call it "Super Mario NX" or "Super Mario 3DNX".

Oh wait, NX is the codename. "Super Mario Splugmi" then.
