Masahiro Sakurai was at the Japan Game Awards to accept an award for Smash Bros. Wii U. When he took the podium for his acceptance speech, he offered up a challenge to Japanese game devs.

Sakurai noted that Japanese devs have to break into the top 10 worldwide games sold, since as of right now, there are no Japanese games in that list. Sakurai did note that this would change when Pokemon Sun/Moon launch.

What's the reasoning for the lack of Japanese representation in the worldwide top 10? Sakurai believes that Japanese games are too niche. Sakurai wants to see Japanese games move on to more acceptance and success on a worldwide scale.

Agree?  Disagree?  I know Keiji Inafune was saying something like this before leaving Capcom (and before the fall that was Mighty No. 9).
