#16522327 So... What are you playing? (general discussion)

Posted by Fushigisaur on 03 June 2016 - 11:12 AM

Yesterday I decided to dig up an old childhood favorite and install Croc 2 on my new PC. I'm enjoying it a lot. I used to play it all the time as a kid, but a combination of having to play with a keyboard and just not being good at games back then meant I never made it past the first couple levels. But now both of those issues are non issues, so I'm making good progress. It's an odd feeling of nostalgia coupled with the surprise and excitement of playing a game for the first time.

Don't drag me into this. I'm not even involved in this discussion.

Just finished watching both of those, very interesting and informative. Also sad that people got so up in arms about that specific video, of all things? I think that's the most calm, level headed assessment of the film I've seen. And he didn't even say anything about the female cat other than that "some people call it 'female Ghostbusters' to distinguish it from the original"

How so? You really think this is the best batch, or are you just being douchey again? If the latter, then that's par for the course, but if the former, then you have some shit taste in poke designs.

Lol he thinks his opinion is worth something.

That's cute.

Next OT post gets deleted.

but we were talking about TFA not the OT

I'm still stuck on the second Corneria level. Shits hard yo. I have found that using cockpit view makes it much easier to aim at the cost of making it harder to dodge. Trying to decide if the trade off is worth it. I think you are supposed to watch both screens at once but I am literally incapable of doing so.

Yes. While The controls can be frustrating at times and it's highly derivative of SF64, there are a lot of things to like about the game and it's an overall enjoyable experience.

It's just easier to talk about the negative parts because they can be more definitively defined.

Let's start an argument about TFA in the SF0 thread

Fix'd

It was a comparison. Whether or not the complaints about TFA are justified (they're not) is irrelevant, I only brought it up because the same complaints can apply to this game.

You know how people complain about star wars 7 being too similar to the first movie even though that's total bs?

Well you can say that about this game, and you would actually be justified in it.

I swear this game doesn't have a single original idea. Every mission is either a carbon copy of a level from a previous game, or several levels put together and mixed up. Which honestly, I wish there was a lot more of the latter, it's really cool to see old ideas play out in new and interesting ways. But on the whole it just feels like SF64 spent too much time with SF Assault wondering whatever happened to SF2 then decided to go be a new game again.

Rundown of the missions (that I've played) and what they copy:

So yesterday I started a file in KOTOR II. I really wish I had gotten this game sooner. It's everything I could want from an RPG. Aside from the occasional bizarre glitch, no doubt caused either by the mod I have installed (cut content restoration) or compatibility issues from playing a game designed for Windows XP on Win10, I'm having a blast.

1988? Maybe it's just cause I'm from a younger generation, but 90's Nick is my jam. But that's what I grew up on. Also 2004 gave us Danny Phantom which to this day is one of my favorite shows ever.

That's not too say Nick isn't going downhill. I'm still really into cartoons and these days all the good shows are on Cartoon Network or Disney XD. Nick just isn't what it used to be, and it's easy to blame Spongebob for the decline if you only look at what it is now. But you compare the early episodes to more recent ones and there is a noticeable decline in quality. It used to be a good show, it just went on far too long and most of the people that made it good moved on to other things. Same thing with Fairly Oddparents, which I loved as a kid and was surprised to learn is still going, only it's crap now.

TL;DR it wasn't spongebob that killed Nick, in fact spongebob is the only thing keeping them alive at this point.
